A PRIVATE BEACHFRONT HERITAGE HOME

One household. Half an acre of private beachfront. Twelve months to experience a location that is truly rare to find.

Trafalgar is a unique coastal town on the lower South Coast of KZN. We're renowned for our long standing Blue Flag beach, comfortably nestled within the Trafalgar Marine Protected Area, open bordering the Mpenjati Nature Reserve. Various duiker and bushbuck species, dassies, crown eagles, otters, the popular vervet monkeys, and even mongoose roam the area freely. With over 150 types of birds, you're certain to be in frequent song. Hidden a few kilometres off the R61 between Southbroom and Palm Beach, entering our town feels like you've gone back in time. The silence is deafening...

Until you hit 'Millionaire's row', which is when you hear it - not the gentle lapping of a postcard, but the full, unfiltered voice of the warm Indian Ocean, a sound so complete it replaces your thoughts.

Harie Om sits within the marine protected conservancy, on one of South Africa's last truly wild coastlines. There is nothing between you and the horizon but an indigenous coastal forest, an empty beach that you can walk for hours, and 100's of kilometres of open water. No cars. No noise. No reminder of the life you're trying to pause on, even for a year.

This is a 4-bedroom home, restored with care rather than stripped for scale.

While the appeal lies in its laid back vibe and disconnection from reality, the home is technologically modern with high performance fibre, mobile controlled alarms and airconditioning, automatic lighting, a scheduled garden service, and armed reaction monitored.

Sleep with the windows open and the ocean becomes the sound your dreams are made of. Wake most mornings to the sun rising straight out of the water, the sky doing something different every single time. A landscape that changes with the currents, revealing layers of oceanic wonders that can only truly be experienced outside the span of a holiday.

What a year here actually looks like

Daily sunrises that reveal the magic rise, whether you're in the warm water out front or snuggled in bed.
A years worth of the most remarkable avocados grown right in your garden which bring the wildlife right to you!
Horses walking the shoreline below, most mornings, unbothered by anyone watching.
Whales breaching within view of the balcony, daily - coffee in hand, no boat required.
The annual sardine run turning the ocean dark, while duiker move quietly through the garden below you.
A night sky with no competition - the Milky Way close enough that you forget where you are.
The Venus Belt: a band of dusty pink turning the eastern horizon soft before every winter sunset. Most people never see it once.
Asteroids burning up over open ocean while you discover yourself in ways you didn't think possible.

Living inside a wildlife conservancy

The Trafalgar MPA is an 8km² stretch of coastline protected since the 1970s. At low tide, the rock pools along the shoreline reveal something most people never see in one place: cretaceous sandstone laid down 90 million years ago, holding fossilised trees, ancient seashells and shark teeth, visible right there in the intertidal zone. Next door, the nature reserve guards the river lagoon and coastal forest that keep this whole stretch as wild as it looks.

From May to July, the sardine run turns the ocean in front of the house into one of the planet's great feeding events. Cape gannets fold their wings and hit the water at up to 100km/h, dropping out of the sky in their hundreds. Dolphins move through in pods that can number in the thousands, working the shoals from below. And from June through November, humpback whales pass close inshore on their way north to calve, then linger on the way back with their newborn calves tucked against the coast, away from deeper water and its predators — mothers and babies, often within sight of the balcony, most days of the week.

The dolphins don't need a season. They're a near-daily presence along this stretch of the Hibiscus Coast, whether or not the sardines are running. It's part of why the speed limit drops the moment you turn off the main road — not for traffic, there isn't any, but for what might be crossing: duiker, mongoose, the odd startled guinea fowl, someone's horse. You slow down here because the town asks you to look around and take it in.

It's also why the coastline still looks like this. Undeveloped, unhurried, with plans in play to become a marine sanctuary for distressed sea life, and — for the household that lives here for the next year — entirely private.

This isn't a listing. It's a conversation.

One household will live here for the next 12 months. We'd like to know a little about you and your plans before we discuss availability and terms - not to be difficult, but because the right fit matters more to us than the first applicant.

Good to know. The intention is a standard twelve-month residential lease, backed by a written lease agreement - not a short-stay or holiday booking. Separately, and with no bearing on this lease, the property is intended for short-stay guests once municipal permissions are finalised.

The Standalone Flat. The property also contains a self contained granny flat. This is not in use and is not included.

This is the question that matters most. Take your time with it.

Thank you. We'll be in touch shortly.

Also open to considering a company lease for team or family use throughout the year.
